We talk a lot about 'worship' at proclaim on Sunday mornings. But leading our families in worship at home is just as important. Husbands, fathers, moms, single parents... are you leading your family in worship?

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. -Ephesians 5.25-30

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. -Ephesians 6.4

Family Worship

So what does family worship look like? Let's make this as simple as we can...

  1. We lead with daily instruction. How do we do that? With the, "washing of the Word," Ephesians tells us. We open the Bible and teach our families about the hope of the gospel and the Christian life.
  2. We pray together! Husbands, pray over your wives. Wives, pray over your husbands. Father's, mother's, pray over your children. Teach your children to pray with you. They are becoming what they are beholding... are they beholding Christ at home?
  3. We sing praises to God. Are you singing about Jesus in your home, together in worship? You don't have to be a musician or know how to sing to do this. "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" Sing a cappella. Stream the music and sing along. SING praises to your Creator. Same goes for Proclaim: we are commanded to sing, just as we are commanded to stay in the Word and pray.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. -Colossians 3.16

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. -1 Thessalonians 5.16-18

Let us encourage one another to obey our Lord, to lead well, loving Christ, abiding in and living out His truth... together in worship.

Eager to worship with you,
